Chimney Repair
Invest in a wood burning stove
A chimneys purpose is to remove harmful gases and by products like carbon monoxide which is produced by the burning of fuel and take the extreme heat away from combustible items. Carbon Monoxide is a very dangerous colourless and odourless gas. It can cause illness and can prove fatal when large amounts are inhaled. To prevent this, it is very important that chimneys receive ongoing cleaning and maintenance. Older chimneys are more likely to be in poor condition therefore are more likely to leak fumes, especially if the flu is not lined. This means that over time smoke and acids can eat into the brickwork of the walls, eroding mortar joints.

In 1965, it was put in place by Building Regulations that new chimneys were to be built with suitable flu liners in order to protect chimney structure and become more efficient.  Flue repair, the mortar crown repair and the damper repair are some of the most important repairs to be done on a chimney. When chimneys become worn or damaged they can let water and falling debris into your home.

A major cause of most fires is due to badly constructed or poorly looked after chimneys and flues. This is more common in thatched houses and enhances the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Another problem can come from unseasoned or damp wood which can cause tar deposits in the flue. Regularly check for possible damages to your chimney and make sure to clean your chimney on a regular basis.
